Athena, better known on social media as #YOWairportcat, has delivered five healthy kittens.

“She was an absolute warrior delivering all five of her babies in only 45 minutes!,” the Furry Tales Cat Rescue group said on social media.

“Words cannot express how relieved we are that Athena was able to have her babies safe, warm, dry and inside with her foster right there for support.”

Athena’s voyage sounds like a feel-good movie script.

The cat was rescued from a landfill project in Manitoba. She was being shipped to Ottawa March 12, when she somehow escaped her cat carrier and disappeared.

Search workers combed the massive and busy area for about 11 days until an alert worker spotted the cat on a video monitoring the airport’s fuel centre.

Athena was exhausted and hungry, and still very pregnant.

Furry Tales said this week the tabby would continue to rest before seeking a foster home.

As for the tiny newcomers, they’re too young for fostering for now.

“Keep following our social media feeds to watch these cuties grow and eventually start the search for their forever families!”

Furry Tales Rescue is on Facebook and Instagram.
