Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH) says masks are encouraged, but no longer mandatory within its facility.

The hospital’s President and CEO says it is in alignment with other acute care organizations in the region.

“The decision to change our policy was based on the continued stabilization of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses,” President and CEO Sabine Mersmann said in a news release.

“This decision was not made lightly.”

Mersmann said virus transmission will be monitored going forward, and they will make adjustments to policy as required.

PRH says it will continue to be “a mask friendly space.”

The hospital says patients attending outpatient settings should still wear a mask if feeling unwell, and caregivers and visitors should follow directions of signage posted at entrances to patient rooms.

Caregivers and visitors are also being asked to delay visits if they are feeling unwell.
