A 31-year-old man was charged after allegedly carrying a firearm and barricading himself in an Oshawa residence.

Durham Regional Police said officers responded on Tuesday at 10:55 a.m. to an armed person call in the Colborne St. W.-Kaiser Cres. area.

The accused was allegedly seen carrying a firearm into an apartment complex. Police confirmed the unit the accused entered and set up a perimeter around the complex. Initial attempts by negotiators to have the accused surrender himself were unsuccessful.

Police said four people were determined to be inside the unit.

While containing the residence, officers allegedly saw two firearms being thrown off the accused’s balcony, police said, and cops recovered the two firearms, which were airsoft replicas.

A short time later, negotiators successfully had all occupants exit the apartment unit.

Five people, including the accused, were taken into custody without incident.

A search warrant was executed on the apartment unit and a third firearm was allegedly found submerged in a mop bucket. This firearm was also determined to be an airsoft replica.

After further investigation, four of the occupants were released from police custody unconditionally.

Treven Green, of no fixed address, was charged with possessing a weapon dangerous to public peace, obstructing a peace officer and failure to comply with a release order.
