Last December, parks board heard that Vancouver’s treasured Kitsilano pool was leaking 30,000 litres of water every hour, calling into question the future of the aged waterfront asset.

Monday’s staff update reported that extensive investigation had determined two crushed pipes and failing expansion joints were largely responsible for the loss of water and that the pool could remain open until more work is done in the fall.

City staff are also applying for funding to improve sea water treatment so that the pool is not reliant at all on potable water. Staff are also hoping to receive funding for a new pool liner.
