Shortly after alleged money-launderer Paul Jin was shot in the face inside a Richmond restaurant, he was captured on CCTV video being helped to his feet and escorted outside to a car that left the scene.

Several video clips from inside and outside the Manzo Restaurant on Sept. 18, 2020, were played for B.C. Supreme Court Justice Jeanne Watchuk on Friday at the murder trial of Richard Reed.

Reed, 25, is charged with the first-degree murder of Jian Jun Zhu, as well as the attempted murder of Jin, as the associates dined with a large group inside the restaurant on Capstan Way.

In the Crown’s opening statement earlier in the week, prosecutor Rusty Antonuk said that a friend of Reed’s would testify that Reed confessed that he was hired to kill Jin for $6,000 but hit the wrong guy.

Antonuk also told Watchuk that CCTV video would be a key part of the Crown’s evidence.

Jin can be seen holding a cloth to his cheek as he is helped outside. Watchuk heard earlier that he sustained injuries to his hip and cheek, and made his own way to hospital.

The controversial businessman watched from the public gallery Friday as the video clips of him getting shot at about 7:34 p.m. that day were played.

The videos also showed several diners leaving after the shooting and before police appeared to have arrived.

The first video showing the RCMP in the restaurant was time-stamped 7:50 p.m. Two officers can be seen in the clip with their guns drawn walking past the table where the shooting occurred and looking behind partitions and under other tables. One puts on latex gloves when he sees there is no one around and begins to move red restaurant chairs.
