The search for the remains of Chelsea Davidenas has officially ended, with police saying the 29-year-old woman’s body was found east of Calgary on Thursday.

“Over the past several days, our officers have been searching rural areas southeast of Chestermere in an effort to locate the remains of Chelsea Davidenas,” Calgary police said in a Friday afternoon update.

The police service said it engaged the Calgary Search & Rescue Association (CALSARA) to assist in the search efforts, after narrowing down the search location on Thursday to an area northeast of Carseland.

According to Calgary police, members of its missing persons team located Davidenas’ remains near Range Road 254 and Highway 901. Investigators worked with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to identify Davidenas.

“We would like to thank our partners from CALSARA for their assistance in helping us provide closure to Chelsea’s family,” CPS said.

Calgary police believe Davidenas was murdered on Feb. 17. She was reported missing 10 days later, after her family grew concerned when they were unable to reach her.

Police alleged that she was lured to a residence located in the 5600 block of Rundlehorn Drive N.E. by two men who were known to her and killed shortly afterward.

The police service also said it believes Davidenas was targeted due to her past as a sex worker.

Two men were arrested on first-degree murder charges on Wednesday — 26-year-old Airdrie resident Steven Aaron Zwick and 52-year-old Calgarian Paul Joseph Rushton.

Zwick and Rushton faced their first court appearances on Thursday, where they both adjourned their cases in Calgary Court of Justice for two weeks while they arrange to retain counsel to represent them.

Both suspects remain detained and any application for bail would have to be made in Court of King’s Bench.

As their cases are now before the courts, police said no further information will be released.
