The victim was reported missing late on Monday, and later located from the air because a ski was visible.

Rescuers found the victim partially buried, with a boot also visible on the snow surface. Avalanche Canada said a transceiver was found switched off in the victim’s backpack.

An incident date was determined by a professional observation made on Saturday, which identified the avalanche as being approximately 12 hours old, says Avalanche Canada.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
