Edmonton police say two suspects who were wanted in connection to an assault and robbery at the Churchill LRT have been taken into custody and charged.

The Edmonton Police Service alleges on Feb. 24 around 5:30 a.m., the man was on the ground-level platform waiting for a train when he was approach by a man.

After the two spoke briefly, police say the male suspect knocked the 64-year-old to the ground and violently assaulted him. Five other suspects reportedly joined the attack and robbed him before fleeing.

The victim was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

EPS says Brady Rodney Desroches-Smith, 28, has been charged with aggravated assault and robbery. Police note, that at the time of arrest he was also wanted for first-degree murder by the Grande Prairie RCMP.

Additionally, police have charged 35-year-old Travis Damian Houle with aggravated assault, robbery, and failure to comply with a probation order.

Police say through tips, they were able to identify one of the suspects as 21-year-old Markus Lee Gladue.

Investigators say at this time, they’ve not been able to locate Gladue, but arrest warrants have been issued for aggravated assault, possess offensive weapon dangerous to public, and robbery.

Three additional suspects have not been identified by police.

Police have described the first unidentified suspect as being of medium build and height, wearing a white puffy jacket with a maroon/purple scarf, black pants, white running shoes with no laces, and carrying a black backpack.

The second suspect has been described as a man between 30- and 40-years-old, roughly 5’7” to 5’9” tall with a slim build, dyed hair, wearing a black face mask and a black hat with a cannabis leaf on the front, a black and orange scarf, black jacket with a ‘Jordan’ logo on the front, dark blue jeans, dark grey shoes carrying a grey backpack. He was also riding a light grey coloured bicycle.

The third unidentified suspect has been described as a woman between 25 and 30-years-old, medium height and medium build, with shoulder-length straight brown hair, wearing a brown sweater, teal baggy pants, white running shoes, carrying a black and white blanket or piece of clothing.

“We are very thankful for the public’s assistance thus far and are hopeful that someone out there recognizes any of the three suspects in the photo and will contact police,” says EPS Const. Anton Golosov.
