City police are searching for a man suspected of illegally trafficking guns through the mail after a firearm was intercepted inside a package at a Canada Post sorting facility in Edmonton.

On Jan.16, 2024, police say an unknown male reportedly attended a Canada Post location in Fort McMurray and mailed a restricted firearm to an address in Edmonton, according to a Tuesday afternoon news release.

The firearm was later intercepted at a postal sorting facility in Edmonton and police were immediately contacted.

Upon investigation, detectives have since determined the man was illegally trafficking the firearm through the postal service.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) have released images of the suspect to the public, in hopes of getting tips on identifying the alleged suspect involved in this case.

The gun remains in custody of EPS, and cops were unable to locate the anticipated recipient.

“The sale of restricted firearms in Canada is prohibited,” says Const. Marc-Andre Gagnon with the EPS northwest branch BEAT team in a release.

“Additionally, there are strict rules related to the shipping of legal non-restricted firearms, including requirements for a secured carrier, a firearm declaration and confirmation that both the seller and purchaser have valid firearms licenses.”
