Lethbridge police are asking the public for help identify the driver who left the scene of a hit-and-run Sunday in which a woman’s dog was killed.

A woman and her dog were struck early Sunday afternoon by a vehicle in the area of 20 Avenue and Palm Road South, police said Monday.

The 33-year-old woman reported to police that her Yorkie Terrier had gotten away from her, and both were struck on 20 Avenue by a dark-coloured vehicle that had failed to stop.

The woman was knocked to the ground but was uninjured and did not require medical treatment. But her dog died as a result of the collision. 

Police were unable to locate any video surveillance of the incident or witnesses. 

Victim/Witnesses Services members helped the woman arrange for her dog to be taken to a local pet crematorium.

Lethbridge police are asking any witnesses, as well as anyone with home security video or dashcam footage, to call 403-328-4444 and reference file 24005270. The incident occurred between 1 p.m. and 1:15 p.m.

The suspect vehicle is described only as a dark-coloured SUV or truck, possibly with tinted windows, said police. The driver’s description could not be provided.
