The victim was reportedly Jessy Furtado-Bénard, 32, a man with ties to Jean-Philippe Célestin, a well-known street gang leader who has close ties to the Montreal Mafia.

On Saturday, shots were fired at a residence in Plateau-Mont-Royal and, according to La Presse and Journal de Montréal, it was the home of Célestin’s parents.

In December, the SQ searched Célestin’s home as part of an investigation that the provincial police said “aims to elucidate several murders linked to organized crime which occurred in Montreal and (north of Montreal) from the middle of the 1990s until today. Certain individuals associated with notorious groups such as the Italian Mafia, the Hells Angels and criminalized street gangs are targeted by the investigation.”

In February, Célestin’s brother, Jean Brandon, was killed in Montreal.
