Highway 99 in Richmond will be closed in both directions overnight Tuesday to allow heavy equipment to be moved across the highway as part of the Steveston interchange project.

Northbound and southbound lanes will close at 11 p.m. on March 19 and will reopen at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20.

During the closure, traffic will be detoured using existing on- and off-ramps, though there may also be short-term stoppages on the ramps, as needed, during the work.

Access for emergency responders, area residents and businesses will be maintained throughout.

The Steveston interchange is being upgraded as part of the planned replacement of the Massey Tunnel, with work on the interchange expected to be completed next year. The eight-lane tunnel is due for completion in 2030.

Drivers should expect minor delays and are asked to use caution on the detour routes. Check DriveBC.ca for updates.
