“Education is at the core of what orchestras do, especially here in Windsor-Essex and with the WSO,” said maestro Robert Franz, who is leading the workshop.

“This workshop is vital to the success of those education concerts. Typically, a young conductor learns how to do these concerts in the schools on the job.

“This workshop gives participants a leg up when faced with this important work.”

The WSO said this is the first such workshop ever held in Canada, and only the second one ever. The International Conductors Guild is an advocate organization for the conducting profession with a membership of more than 1,100 conductors around the world.

This week’s workshop focuses on the creation, preparation, and live presentation of education programs. Each conductor in the workshop must develop an education concert and present it to a local school.

Six conductors from across North America have come to Windsor. They will present their creative programs during local in-school concerts.
