A 53-year-old Windsor man is facing multiple criminal charges following a string of burglaries at city businesses.

Police said there were break-ins or attempted break-ins at five commercial buildings between February 20 and March 3.

In all but one of the incidents, police said the thief smashed a window while trying to get inside.

In two of the cases, investigators said the suspect stole more than $11,000 from businesses in the 6700 block of Tecumseh Street East and the 2500 block of Jefferson Boulevard.

In the other three cases, police said the culprit damaged the buildings but failed to gain entry.

After a nearly month-long investigation, the Windsor Police Service’s target base unit arrested a suspect March 15 at a residence in the 2900 block of Meadowbrook Lane.

The 53-year-old man is charged with two counts of break-and-enter at a place other than a dwelling, three counts of attempted break-and-enter at a place other than a dwelling, five counts of wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, three counts of breach of probation, and three counts of failure to comply with a release order.
