Calgary police have arrested one person about a suspicious death in the southwest community of Shawnessy.

Officers were called to the 200 block of Shawcliffe Circle S.W. around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, where a man was in medical distress.

When police arrived, they found a man with serious injuries who was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition. Responders were unable to save the man’s life and he was later declared dead.

The Calgary police homicide unit is now investigating the incident, with an autopsy to be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Friday.

Police have taken one person into custody.

A neighbour who identified himself to Postmedia only as Bryan said the man lived in the home with a longtime partner. He said he’s lived across from the couple for two decades and described them as quiet.

“I’ve been saying hi to him for 20 years. We talked — you know, neighbourhood stuff … I’m really curious what the heck happened exactly,” Bryan said, adding he couldn’t recall the man’s name.
