St. Patrick’s Day has long been a day to celebrate Irish culture and identity, no matter what one’s background may be. That was certainly the case in early prairie settlements in Canada, including Calgary. A century ago on March 17, Calgarians went to dances, teas, movies and more to mark the day. Here’s a look at St. Paddy’s Day clippings, stories and ads from the Calgary Herald 100 and 101 years ago, in March 1923 and 1924.
