LCBO workers targeted Progressive Conservative MPPs during a day of action on Tuesday, accusing the Ford government of planning to sell off the Crown corporation and distributing petitions to the offices of 11 government officials, including the premier’s constituency office in Etobicoke.

“We’re going to stand together and do whatever it takes to stop Doug Ford from selling off the LCBO and to protect good jobs in every community across Ontario,” Hornick said in a news release announcing the day of action, which also targeted constituency offices in Mississauga, Pickering and Hamilton.

The Ford government has said nothing about selling off the LCBO, whose workers are bargaining for a new contract with the province with the latest round of talks held on Wednesday.

The province announced late last year that it will allow corner stores and big box stores to sell beer, wine and ready-to-drink cocktails in addition to grocery stores starting in 2026 — or possibly sooner — but has said the changes will give consumers more options. The LCBO will remain the province’s exclusive wholesaler to retailers, bars and restaurants as part of the new framework and the government has said it will have exclusive rights to spirits like vodka, gin and whisky.
