Chicago (DLF/d.de) During a trip to the US, German Economics Minister Robert Habeck is pushing for an agreement on the free trade of certain goods with the USA. As Habeck said in Chicago, what he has in mind is a kind of “mini free trade deal” for certain technical products. He talked about this with US Secretary of Commerce Gina Marie Raimondo.
Talks are currently underway between the USA and the EU aimed at drawing up common standards for goods that come within the scope of US President Biden’s programme of subsidies, which is worth billions of dollars. Specifically, Habeck mentioned industrial goods, batteries, semiconductors and critical raw materials.
Besides agreeing on how to tackle the current geopolitical crises, he was keen during his visit to the US to boost bilateral trade and investment relations and advance transatlantic cooperation on key future technologies.
