The Legault government is tackling delays in court for youth protection issues.

A new roundtable of partners is being convened to improve the system, the province announced Saturday.

Justice Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette and Social Services Minister Lionel Carmant say they want to optimize the process starting from the first reporting of an incident until the end of the judicial process.

The group, composed of representatives from the Quebec Bar Association, the Commission des services juridiques, Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse and youth protection officials will put together an action plan to improve the system, based on best practices observed elsewhere.

In December 2022, Le Soleil reported there was a six-month delay in cases being heard in court.
