Five Guys ‘out-of-control’ prices under fire after $24 receipt goes viral

You can’t go anywhere nowadays without experience sticker shock as the cost of everything has gone up.

From grocery stores to restaurants, shoppers and diners are feeling the effects of food inflation, which don’t seem to be improving and won’t be anytime soon.

So after one person on X posted a $24 receipt from a single order at Five Guys, the internet nearly lost their damn minds, Denette Wilford reported.

While many people shared that they have had enough with the high cost of eating out, and others “defended” the burger joint for always being pricey, most people questioned why someone would tip at a fast-food restaurant.

In any case, hopefully the person enjoyed their Five Guys meal. Maybe next time, though, they should skip the tip. Let’s not start that precedent.

WARMINGTON: New carbon fee on restaurant bill may be ‘legal’ but it’s tough to swallow

Continuing with the food theme this week, Joe Warmington reported on Italian restaurant chain Goodfellas Wood Oven Pizza, which not only serves up some delicious food, it also wants its patrons to help save the environment — whether they want to or not.

Someone shared what they recently spent at the restaurant and after the food and drinks, and tax and tip, there was one more thing to pay for: a 2% “Carbon Fee.”

Not that anyone ordered that.

But while it is perfectly legal, these hidden-in-plain-sight fees are draining people’s already-empty pockets and could result in people not being able to go out at all. Or want to.

‘HORRIFIC SCENE’: International student, 19, charged after mother and 4 kids killed in gruesome attack at Ottawa home

It was a horrific couple of days in an Ottawa suburb, where police recovered the bodies of six people from the Barrhaven home in what might be the city’s worst mass killing ever.

A 19-year-old international student who had been living in the residence has been charged in the slayings of 35-year-old Darshani Ekanyake, her seven-year-old son Inuka Wickramasinghe, and her three daughters: Ashwini, 4; Rinyana, 2; and Kelly, two-and-a-half months.

Another Sri Lankan, Amarakoonmubiayansela Ge Gemini Amarakoon, 40, also lived in the townhouse and was killed in the attack.

The accused, Febrio De-Zoysa, has also been charged with attempted murder in connection with the family’s father who survived the rampage.

His case was adjourned until March 13 to give him time to find a lawyer.

Maple Leafs GM Treliving’s week gets no easier with Lyubushkin injury

Quite the test awaits Maple Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving this week.
After suffering a head injury from getting crunched into the boards by Rangers rookie forward Matt Rempe, it was unknown how soon Ilya Lyubushkin would be able to get back on the ice.

Pfft, please. The Boosh was back by Monday, Terry Koshan reported, playing in the first of two 4-1 losses against the Bruins this past week.

But, still. The pressure has been on Treliving to add another defenceman following some recent injuries (and he did just that, acquiring Joel Edmundson from the Capitals to add more beef to the blue line on Thursday — three days after Koshan’s piece was published).

But at the time, Koshan reported that Treliving had to make something work with two fewer assets after he traded a third-round pick and a sixth-rounder in the Lyubushkin deal.

Looks like he did.

DEATH IN PORNLAND: Starlets who met an early end in smut biz

While a recent report suggesting the average life expectancy of a porn star is just 37 years has since been debunked, there’s no denying that women and men in the industry do die young at an alarming rate.

Brad Hunter explored the mortality rate of adult entertainers and, sadly, suicide is prevalent, as many who enter the biz with stars in their eyes soon discover the industry is rife with abuse.

RIP.
