A 59-year-old Okanagan woman has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Barry Jones.

Lynda Saundry was charged with first-degree murder several days after the 55-year-old man was shot and killed in a home near Round Lake in the North Okanagan on July 31, 2020.

Saundry, who had been in custody since the charge was laid, entered the lesser plea on Tuesday, on the second day of her trial on the murder charge in B.C. Supreme Court in Kelowna.

A joint submission from the Crown and defence counsel recommended Saundry receive a 10-year sentence.

“I am proud of our officers and partners hard work on this file,” said Staff Sgt. Jason Smart, commanding officer of the RCMP’s southeast district major crime unit, in a statement.

“We are grateful for the support we have had throughout this investigation and our hearts go out to the victim’s family and friends as we continue to support them.”
