“Snow is expected to turn to snow showers into the morning hours, before switching to a rain/snow mix. However, the timing of this change may occur during or after the Monday morning rush-hour commute.”

Environment Canada is calling for wet flurries or rain showers overnight for Vancouver, along with a risk of thunderstorms Sunday evening. Snowfall amounts are estimated at two centimetres along with an overnight low of 1 degree Celsius.

How much, if any, snow accumulates depends on overnight temperatures relative to freezing and whether roadways are at higher elevation, such as on the North Shore.

“Regardless of accumulation amounts, drivers should expect winter driving conditions and be prepared,” said Mainroad.

The snow and rain is expected to taper off in the early afternoon.

Mainroad said crews will be patrolling all highways in its service area, including plowing and applying de-icing material as needed.

Drivers should ensure their vehicles are ready for winter conditions and check DriveBC.ca before heading out. Concerns about conditions can be reported to Mainroad’s 24-hour hotline, 604-271-0337.
