Actor Mark Dodson surrounded by Star Wars Funkos at Star Wars Celebration 2019.

Mark Dodson, a voice actor best known as Mogwai in the 1984 film Gremlins, passed away on Saturday at 64 years old.

News of his death was announced by his talent agency Stellar Appearances on Facebook. According to TMZ, his daughter Ciara said he died in his sleep from a heart attack while attending Horror Con this weekend.

Born Februay 1, 1960, Dodson originally worked as a radio producer before stepping into voice acting in 1983 as Salacious B. Crumb in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. He’d go to do voice work in plenty of movies and shows throughout the decades, including Day of the Dead, Darkwing Duck, Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, and Arachnicide. He would also continue to be a part of Gremlins, returning to do voice work for its sequel as multiple Gremlin characters.

Dodson also became a prolific voice actor for video games. Along with doing bit roles in Killing Floor 2 and Star Trek Online, he voiced the Architect for One More Level’s Ghostunner (and Adam in the first’s Project Hel expansion and 2023’s Ghostrunner II) and Nathan Arch in Bendy & the Dark Revival. He even reprised his role as Crumb for 2022’s Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

“Mark worked on dozens of movies, video games, commercials and advertisements adding his unique voice and sound to each character and script he touched,” wrote Stellar. “[He] truly loved his fans and enjoyed meeting them at conventions around the world. […] Mark leaves behind a wonderful family, close friends, and adoring fans around the world.”

Our thoughts go out to the Dodson family at this time.
