The Saskatoon Blades snapped an uncharacteristic three-game losing streak on Saturday by shutting out the host Brandon Wheat Kings 4-0.

Brandon Lisowsky opened the scoring for the Blades 15 minutes and 21 seconds into the first period and was then followed by Egor Sidirov at 3:35 into the second period to put the visitors up 2-0 entering the final period.

In the third period, Liskowsky doubled up on his scoring for the night, netting a goal at 6:55 to give the Blades a 3-0 lead, which increased to 4-0 just under two minutes later thanks to a goal by Fraser Minten.

In net, Austin Elliott stopped all 21 shots on goal for the Blades, recording his third shutout of the season in the process. At the other end of the ice, Carson Bjarnason made 45 saves on 49 shots for the Wheat Kings.

Saskatoon’s victory comes after the team lost three straight home games including a 4-1 defeat by the Lethbridge Hurricanes on March 1.

In that game, neither team was able to get on the scoreboard until 1:09 into the second period when Easton Armstrong scored for the Blades.

Unfortunately, it was all Lethbridge after that as the visitors scored twice in the second period to go up 2-1 and then added another two goals in the third period, including an empty netter.

Elliott made 17 saves on 20 shots for Saskatoon that night, while Brady Smith went 32 for 33 for the Hurricanes.

With only eight games remaining in their regular season, six of which will be played at home, the Blades are first not only in the Eastern Conference but overall in the Western Hockey League with a 43-12-2-3 record, good enough for 91 points in 60 games.

Saskatoon will next be in action on March 8 when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers.
