ASUS sells a lot of laptops, but the Vivobook series is the company’s premium option for productivity work. The company has now revealed an updated Vivobook S lineup for 2024, with crisp OLED screens and newer processors from AMD and Intel.
ASUS announced a total of six new Vivobook S laptops: three with AMD’s latest Ryzen 8000 processors, and three with Intel’s new Core Ultra processors. The Ryzen 8000 CPU series isn’t all that exciting compared to the previous generation, but you still get fast speeds, decent power efficiency, and a dedicated NPU for on-device AI workloads. The Intel Core Ultra chips were revealed in December, with an updated hybrid architecture to boost power efficiency and a built-in neural processor for AI tasks.
The 14-inch Vivobook S 14 OLED is the most compact option, followed by the larger 15.6-inch Vivobook S 15 OLED, and finally the largest 16-inch Vivbook S 16 OLED. That’s similar to Dell’s latest XPS laptop lineup, and each of those Vivobook models can be purchased with either Intel or AMD chips (thus, six models total). The main selling points here are the sleek design and high-quality OLED screens, with some models having 120Hz 3.2K panels, but there are a few other standout features.
ASUS packed a bunch of ports into the Vivobook S laptops, which certainly makes them stand out against the latest MacBooks, Dell XPS ultrabooks, and most other competitors. There are two Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A connectors, an HDMI 2.1 TMDS port, a microSD card reader, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Vivobook S laptops also have an “ASUS ErgoSense single-zone RGB-backlit keyboard,” with 1.7mm key travel and an “optimized scissor-key mechanism” to minimize typing noise. We don’t see customizable RGB lights on non-gaming laptops all that often, and even though all keys have to be set to the same color (no rainbow effects, sorry), the keyboard supports Windows Dynamic Lighting so the colors can be changed from the regular Windows Settings app. Those keyboards also have a dedicated Copilot key.
There’s no release date set for these laptops yet, so you’ll have to keep an eye on ASUS’s website or retail stores if you want to grab one. There are pages for each model on the ASUS website already, at least.
