Huawei may have changed its approach to laptops, previously making some excellent sub-£500 options but no more, however, the picks remain strong. These are the best options, formed from our expert reviews.
When Huawei first burst onto the laptop scene, the D14 and D16 laptops were excellent value options. But, as the years went on, there was a greater focus on its premium offerings, like the X Pro and S-series machines. The D-series stuck around but slowly crept up in price. Either way, here at Trusted Reviews, we’ve continued to test as many of them as possible.
Every laptop on this list has been thoroughly tested by a member of our expert team. We ensure to use industry-standard benchmark software such as Geekbench 6 and PCMark 10, alongside professional equipment like a colourimeter to check the brightness and colour accuracy of each screen.
And we don’t just stop there. We test every model for at least seven days and pack our reviews with real-world evidence of our testing. This is important, as even the most powerful laptops may not have a UI that’s desirable, or may come with a keyboard that doesn’t have a decent amount of travel. All of this research is done to help you make an informed decision which means that you don’t have to worry about all those little details.
We’ve kept this list as diverse as possible. While Huawei does predominantly produce productivity devices, this list features a variety of screen sizes, processors, use cases and price points so you can find a model that will work for you.
If you decide that you want to broaden your horizons past the Huawei brand, we have plenty of other roundups you can check out. How we test
Every laptop we review goes through a series of uniform checks designed to gauge key things including build quality, performance, screen quality and battery life.
These include formal synthetic benchmarks and scripted tests, plus a series of real-world checks, such as how well it runs the most frequently used apps.
We also make sure to use every laptop we review as our primary device for at least a week to ensure our review is as accurate as possible.

Huawei MateBook X Pro (2023)
Best overall Huawei laptop
Pros
- Mature and sleek build
- HDR support bolsters media content
- Multi-Touch touchpad is as helpful as ever
- Easy to take on the go
Cons
- Nothing but USB-C is limiting
- Expensive for strictly productivity
The Huawei MateBook X Pro (2023) sticks to the formula of the laptops that it succeeds and that’s no bad thing. It’s a sleek and high-end productivity machine, and we think that makes it the best Huawei laptop overall.
In the past, Huawei has offered up a stylish green hue to make its flagship laptop stand out from the crowd but, this time, it’s a pearly white option. It is a wonderfully unique look that manages to be understated and eye-catching in equal measure. It’s lightweight and slim too, measuring 1.38kg and 15.5mm respectively.
Its compact build doesn’t mean the display has been hindered. The MateBook X Pro has a bright and lush 14.2-inch 3K resolution panel. The brightness isn’t remarkable but the colours pop, making for a detailed experience whether you’re watching movies or surfing the web.
The performance is more than up to snuff for a premium productivity machine, with the Core i7 and 16GB RAM combo meaning you can do plenty of multi-tasking and open a mountain of tabs. You’ll be doing this over the course of a long working day too, with the Huawei able to manage around eight hours and a half of battery life.

Huawei MateBook 14s
Best value Huawei laptop
Pros
- Beautiful display with great resolution
- Lightweight and very portable
- High-quality keyboard
- Webcam issues from the MateBook 16 has been fixed
Cons
- Sometimes goes to sleep when unplugged
- Fan can get a little noisy
- No option for a discrete GPU
Sporting the same 14.2-inch screen as the MateBook X Pro (2022), the Huawei MateBook 14s offers a similar experience to the Pro but at a more affordable price point.
The 3:2 aspect ratio made it easy to have multiple work tabs open without the screen feeling too cluttered, with our reviewer also loving the touchscreen capabilities. Anyone who needs to scour maps or look through big excel sheets will definitely appreciate this feature, and the sturdy build quality makes this a perfect laptop for on-the-go working since it fits easily in most backpacks.
It comes with up to an 11th-Generation Intel Core i7 H-Series processor which beat out the MateBook X Pro (2021) in our testing. While it does pack an integrated GPU that limits graphically intensive work like video editing or 3D rendering, the Intel Iris Xe Graphics will still allow for light photo-editing and casual gaming – although we would recommend this more to anyone after a productivity work laptop.
The MateBook 14s is a great choice, with a portable design that can be taken to and from the office and a bright screen that can handle multiple tabs open at once. However, if you’re looking for a larger screen to work on, check out our next entry on the Huawei MateBook 16s, which comes with a punchy 16-inch display.

Huawei MateBook 16s (2022)
Best 16-inch Huawei laptop
Pros
- Large touchscreen display
- Speedy 12th-Gen processor
- Good selection of ports
Cons
- Poor battery life
- Lack of discrete GPU
The Huawei MateBook 16s is our favourite big-screen laptop from the brand. The 16-inch touchscreen panel is so big that you can easily view multiple apps and web browsers simultaneously. During our testing, we noticed that the 2520×1680 resolution helped to enhance the visual quality of movies and TV shows compared to more conventional Full HD laptops, with the additional pixels making on-screen images look sharper.
This laptop isn’t just impressive for its big screen, as it’s also packing an incredibly powerful 12th Gen Intel Core processor. It scored very impressive results in our benchmark tests, with faster processing speeds than both the LG Gram 16 (2022) and MacBook Air M2. Unfortunately, there’s no option for a discrete GPU to boost the graphics performance for workloads such as video editing and gaming. But it’s hard to be too disappointed by this when you consider the great value price.
There is a downside to having such a powerful performance though, as the MateBook 16s only lasted 7 hours and 34 minutes in our battery benchmark test. Other laptops such as the LG Gram 16 performed significantly better here, but do admittedly offer a weaker CPU performance. It’s also worth noting that the MateBook 16s is rather heavy, hitting the scales at 1.99kg.
But while you will have to make compromises when opting for a 16-inch laptop with a blazing fast performance, there are still plenty of benefits on offer. If you want a 16-inch laptop screen, as well as a performance good enough for the likes of photo editing, there are few better options than the MateBook 16s.

Huawei MateBook D 16 (2022)
Best budget-friendly 16-inch Huawei laptop
Pros
- Large and vibrant display
- Speedy 12th-Gen Intel processor
- Relatively cheap price
- Great port selection
Cons
- Poor battery life
- Annoying trackpad placement
The Huawei MateBook D 16 is another 16-inch laptop from Huawei, but has less impressive specs than the MateBook 16 S, and a more affordable price. This makes it a great option for those who want a large screen but are on a tight budget.
The large screen has a 1920×1200 resolution, which our review noted was sharp and vibrant. In our benchmarks, we also saw the screen reach 328.5 nits, with a contrast of 1442:2. This falls slightly short of the MateBook 16, though it ensured a clear difference between dark and bright imagery for great picture quality.
It also packs a 12th-Generation Intel Core processor, which we thought allowed for speedy processing speeds. It was able to handle multiple Chrome tabs, Spotify and YouTube being opened at once without faltering, making it an ideal productivity laptop.
Plus, the large and tactile keyboard is full-sized, giving users access to a numeric keyboard. Anyone who regularly works with numbers or spreadsheets will find this helpful, and we liked how quiet it was to use.

Huawei MateBook E
Best hybrid Huawei laptop
Pros
- Two-in-one laptop
- Huawei keyboard comes included
- Support for Huawei M-Pencil
- Amazing colour accuracy
- Responsive touch screen
Cons
- Slightly heavier than you may expect
- Disaspointing battery
- Keyboard can be unresponsive
- Not enough ports
The Huawei MateBook E (2022) is the best Huawei laptop with a 2-in-1 design, which means it can be used as both a tablet and a laptop. It comes bundled with the Huawei Keyboard, while you can also buy the M-Pencil to doodle and draw with more precision, although the screen is still perfectly responsive when using your finger.
The 12.6-inch screen uses OLED technology, which our reviewer thought was vibrant, with the blacks looking deeper and colours looking punchier. Our tests backed this up, as the screen came out with a high brightness of 418 nits and a perfect contrast. It also scored great in our colour accuracy tests, meaning that any creative professionals will be fine using the MateBook E for photo editing and other colour-sensitive work.
Furthermore, our reviewer found that this laptop rarely ever stalled and could handle simple tasks like web browsing, word processing and video streaming with ease. The versatile design means it can be configured in multiple ways, allowing users to switch from productivity work to watching a movie seamlessly.
While we wouldn’t recommend the MateBook E for any creatives that want to engage in intensive work (like video editing or 3D rendering) due to the lack of discrete GPU, we think it’s ideal for anyone who values portability and versatility.
