Moonbeam Network is moving into Web3 gaming through a partnership with game studio Animo Industries.

Singapore-based Moonbeam Network is a smart contract platform for building cross-chain connected applications. The company said it is making significant strides in the gaming sector through its strategic partnership with Animo Industries.

The collaboration aims to harness blockchain technology to elevate user experiences within Animo’s ecosystem, encompassing its flagship multiplayer video game, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and real-world collectibles.

This sounds like a strategy for a company to announce maybe a couple of years ago. Blockchain games went into a funk in the past year as crypto prices fell and players soured on the notion of play-to-earn games. But crypto prices are back up, and we’ll see if the survivors can get good games out the door.

Moonbeam and Animo Industries want to be at the forefront of transforming the landscape. Blockchain integration promises secure and transparent transactions, player ownership of in-game assets, and real economic incentives.

Despite the immense potential, hurdles hinder the mainstream adoption of blockchain gaming. Issues such as player onboarding to Web3 and concerns about inferior Web3 gameplay quality compared to traditional games need to be addressed for widespread acceptance.

Moonbeam, in collaboration with Animo said it can advance Web3 gaming by placing gamers at the forefront, prioritizing user experience over token-earning mechanisms or technology for its own sake.

Eduardo Cabrera, CEO of Animo, said in a statement, “Moonbeam stood out from the crowd as their support for ANIMO has been incredibly helpful and unwavering since some time ago already. We are confident that players will find a good home for their items in the Moonbeam Network.”

Animo, in development for over two years, is set to deliver a premium gaming experience through its Stars Arena third-person mech-shooter online multiplayer game, NFT collection, and real-world collectibles. Stars Arena will soon be available on platforms such as Epic Games, Steam, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.

Sicco Naets, head of ecosystem development at Moonbeam Foundation, said in a statement, “Our partnership with Animo Industries is a sign of our shared commitment to bring web3 gaming to a broader audience. This collaboration is part of our broader strategy to move blockchain gaming beyond the conventional Play2Earn model and technology for its own sake, by prioritizing gamers and ensuring web3 adds meaningful utility to the core gameplay mechanics. We’re thrilled to collaborate with a company that prioritizes creating games that are enjoyable and immersive.”

Animo’s NFT collection has achieved significant success, generating over 3,000 ETH in trade volume since December 2021, equivalent to almost $7 million at current prices. Stars Arena is scheduled to launch to the public on March 1, offering gamers a new and immersive experience.

Integrating functionality from Ethereum, Cosmos, Polkadot, and more into a unified platform, Moonbeam addresses the fragmented user experience, unlocking true interoperability for the next generation of applications. With integrated cross-chain messaging and a developer-friendly EVM platform, Moonbeam provides an ideal environment for building connected applications.
