Active noise cancellation is probably one of the biggest additions to earbuds in years. They have completely changed the way we listen to music, with adaptive noise cancellation letting us choose between complete silence or letting in some noise from outside. Lately, however, those who prefer the latter and don’t really want earbuds that isolate you from the outside world have plenty of options. Bose has just released some “open” earbuds, and they look great.

Bose has introduced the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds, a new pair of earbuds that offers users the ability to enjoy music while staying aware of their surroundings. The earbuds feature a cuff-shaped design for comfort and stability, ensuring they can be worn throughout the day without blocking the ears. This design also allows you to remain open to ambient sounds, letting you do things such as listen to music privately in your car where you still need to be aware of what’s happening around you.

The Ultra Open Earbuds boast a stylish appearance with polished, soft edges and a brushed metallic finish, making them resemble fashion accessories in a way rather than traditional audio wearables. Additionally, their design allows for compatibility with accessories like glasses, hats, and jewelry, without interference. Utilizing Bose’s OpenAudio technology, the earbuds deliver high-quality audio with minimal sound leakage to the outside world. This ensures that you can fully immerse yourself in your music without disturbing those around you.

You have the option to choose between two modes: “Still” mode, which maintains audio position for stationary activities, and “Motion” mode, which adjusts audio positioning to match movement, ideal for on-the-go use. The earbuds are IPX4 rated for water and sweat resistance, making them suitable for use during workouts or outdoor activities. They offer up to 7.5 hours of battery life on a single charge, with the charging case providing additional hours and supporting quick charging functionality.

The earbuds come in two color options, Black and White Smoke, and feature a physical button for easy control of playback, volume, and more. They are $299, though, which is roughly the price of the most premium wireless earbuds out there, so you better like that “open” feature if you plan on getting these. You can buy them at Best Buy or the Bose online store, and be sure to check out our full Bose Ultra Open Earbuds review for more details.
