Further to Roger Crisp’s letter (“What would politics be like if MPs were chosen by lot?”, January 27), it was William F Buckley Jr, the American conservative writer, who quipped: “I would rather be governed by the first 2,000 people in the Boston telephone directory than by the 2,000 people on the faculty of Harvard University.”
