Stuart Kirk (“Everyone’s a hypocrite on corporate governance”, Opinion, January 27) derides OpenAI’s non-profit charity controlling its for-profit operational company as “one of the looniest governance structures ever”.

I don’t think shareholders of Novo Nordisk, now Europe’s most valuable company and celebrating a century of profitable growth, would agree. It is controlled by a charity which has as its objectives the “stability” of Novo Nordisk, to support medical research and “other scientific, humanitarian and social purposes”. No mention of growth or shareholder value. Somewhat ironic that despite being the “loony” antithesis of western capitalist governance, it has certainly ended up maximising profits.
