NVIDIA’s RTX 4000 series of graphics cards has faced some stiff competition, but they still reign supreme as the best GPUs currently on the market. With AMD struggling to keep up and Intel still in its early days of its dedicated GPU business, NVIDIA’s cards have been the go-to for many gamers since RTX 4000 launched in late 2022, with features such as DLSS 3 only helping to seal the deal. Now, it’s time for a refresh, and NVIDIA’s cards are becoming even more powerful now.
NVIDIA has unveiled its GeForce RTX 40 Super series family of GPUs, featuring the GeForce RTX 4080 Super, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super, and the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER. These GPUs are still built on the Ada Lovelace architecture, and it won’t change until the RTX 4000-series true successors (RTX 5000?) release, but with it now being a more mature architecture, NVIDIA is allowing itself to double down on it and pass the performance gains to gamers. The cards are offering up to 52 shader TFLOPS, 121 RT TFLOPS, and 836 AI TOPS, making them great for both gaming and creative purposes.
NVIDIA’s GPUs have had some AI tech for a few years now, using artificial intelligence and machine learning for stuff such as DLSS, which allows you to upscale your games from a lower resolution (thus resulting in higher framerates) with a minimal quality loss. This time, however, generative AI is everywhere, which means NVIDIA is going all in. NVIDIA is particularly highlighting the AI performance gains of the new RTX GPUs, and the company has also released a bunch of new AI-focused software. That’s not to say that they forgot about other parts of the cards, though. According to the company, with the RTX 4070 Super featuring 20% more cores than its non-Super predecessor, it’s faster than the RTX 3090 at a fraction of the power and, of course, the cost.
The RTX 4070 Super will be releasing first on January 17th, at a $599 price point. The RTX 4070 Ti Super will be coming a few days later, at $799, while the RTX 4080 Super will be costing $999 and launching on January 31st. There’s no clue whether NVIDIA will be releasing other Super variants of existing cards, including an ultra-powerful RTX 4090 Super, but we’ll have to wait and see. RTX 5000 cards shouldn’t be too far away, either.
